Swedana:
Swedana helps the body detoxify and rebalance Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Sweat glands help eliminate toxins from the body. A stimulated sweat gland can remove toxins from the inner layers of the skin and muscles by mobilizing them. In Panchakarma, swedana is a crucial preparatory procedure. It is often associated with the steam box, that closed box we use at the end of a body massage. There are several types of this treatment modality depending on the duration, the part or the whole body, the intensity, and the source of the sweat. Ayurveda considers yoga or exercises that make you sweat swedana. The most common cause of sweating in Ayurveda is steam.
